The time has finally come. Here is my final 2023 NFL Mock Draft. This is a predictive mock and not what I believe should happen. There are also no trades, as they just mess up the predictive nature of a mock.

1. Carolina Panthers (from Chi): Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
Since trading up, it was obvious that the Panthers would be drafting a Quarterback, but now in the last week it has become clear that this Quarterback is Bryce Young. Despite his small size, which is an overblown concern, Young is mine and the draft media's top Quarterback. He has the accuracy, anticipation and pocket presence to be a good NFL Quarterback. Expect him to be named the starter before training camp.
2. Houston Texans: Will Anderson Jr., EDGE, Alabama
Up until the last couple of days, I strongly believed the Texans would draft a Quarterback, but there has been a bunch of news about them passing to take an edge rusher, and I have learned to follow the late news for the top five. Plus, when there is uncertainty about a team drafting a Quarterback early in the first round, oftentimes they don't. Look back on how the Panthers and Broncos passed on Justin Fields. Teams often don't draft a Quarterback if they are not sold on one. C.J. Stroud has been projected as a top three pick for over a year now, but there are concerns about his game. His pocket presence is a bit concerning as is evident by his significant drop in productivity when pressured. I also believe he was propped up a bit by his strong supporting cast. His stats are good, but not great. However, the biggest reason to believe they are going to pass on Quarterback, is Adam Schefter is reporting they have attempted to trade down. Teams don't trade down for a Quarterback. This pick comes down to either Will Anderson or Tyree Wilson. A strong case can be made for either, but Anderson has been considered the top non-Quarterback for over a year now. No reason to change now. Plus, the Texans drafted five players from the SEC last year, why not continue that trend. Will Anderson is a well-rounded edge rusher with good twitch and surprising strength. He is also a leader and high character player, who likely becomes a star for them.
3. Arizona Cardinals: Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State
Since Tony Pauline's report on Saturday, there has been growing buzz that the Cardinals would draft Paris Johnson. At first I was skeptical, but the idea grew on me. Late rumors, especially in the top 5 often turn out to be true. Paris Johnson has the size, length and athleticism to become a top Left Tackle. While Offensive Tackle is not an immediate need, Arizona's roster is a mess so they most think beyond needs. They need to focus on drafting players who will form their next core group of players. D.J. Humphries and Kelvin Beachum are getting up in age, plus Humphries will get expensive next season. So they will have a need shortly. This move is all about building for the future.
4. Indianapolis Colts: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky
The Colts are selecting a Quarterback as every indication since the end of the season has pointed to this. I am cooling on the idea of the Colts drafting Anthony Richardson, as I believe I and many others fell for his combine hype. Before the combine he was the consensus 4th Quarterback, but immediately afterward his stock shot up. While he tested well, it was expected. This leaves Will Levis and C.J. Stroud. Either could be the pick, but Will Levis gets the nod due to his higher upside, as Chris Ballard loves physical traits.
5. Seattle Seahawks (from Den): Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech
This would be a dream come true scenario for Chicago. They get a top three talent and fill a massive need at the same time. He is an athletic and versatile interior defensive lineman who is borderline unblockable. For the Bears, he would primarily play as the 3-tech, which is arguably the most essential position in their defense.
6. Detroit Lions (from LAR): Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois
I believe Detroit is hoping that either Will Anderson or Tyree Wilson falls to them, but in this mock that is not the case. Jalen Carter is a possibility here, but I am not convinced they will take a player at 6th overall who has concerns about his effort. Instead they go with a Cornerback, Devon Witherspoon, who balls out on every play. While they did sign Cameron Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley in free agency, a team can't have enough Cornerbacks. However, this is a best player available over a need pick. Devon Witherspoon gives the Lions a third starting caliber Cornerback, completing what would be a drastically improved secondary. He also gives them a Cornerback who will excel in man coverage.
7. Las Vegas Raiders: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State
With Houston seemingly passing on a Quarterback, the Raiders are the big winners by swooping up the "falling" C.J. Stroud. They are rumored to have him as one of their top two Quarterbacks, along with Bryce Young. Since I have been saying that the Raiders would draft either one for months, if they were available, there is now reason to change my mind now. Stroud gives the Raiders a highly accurate Quarterback with great anticipation. He fits perfectly into the Raiders quick and high-completion passing game, but also has the ability to make the deep throws.
8. Atlanta Falcons: Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
After filling many of their needs in free agency, particularly on defense, the Falcons can take the player who will have the biggest impact instead of filling a need. This pick comes down to Bijan Robinson or Nolan Smith. Since Robinson is widely considered the better prospect, I am going with him. It also helps that the Falcons were connected to Kyle Pitts and Drake London before the Falcons drafted them, so the buzz is probably not just speculation. Bijan Robinson gives the falcons the best one-two punch at Running Back.
9. Chicago Bears (from Car): Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
This would be a dream come true scenario for Chicago. They get a top three talent and fill a massive need at the same time. He is an athletic and versatile interior defensive lineman who is borderline unblockable. For the Bears, he would primarily play as the 3-tech, which is arguably the most essential position in their defense.
10. Philadelphia Eagles (from NO): Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia
The Eagles have been rumored to love both Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter. Carter is undoubtedly higher on their board, but unless he makes it past six, they have no chance to get him. Nolan Smith is more than a consolation prize though. His great explosiveness and bend give him a sky-high ceiling. The person with the Twitter account HonestNFL, who predicted the Eagle would trade up for Jordan Davis, said, "I think Nolan Smith would be the best fit (except Carter). He can play base as Will (weak Edge) opposite Reddick and balance out the structure to make things a bit less obvious with who’s the 4th rusher. He’s a fantastic fit for this scheme with his versatility."
11. Tennessee Titans: Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida
The Titans have heavily focused on scouting quarterbacks, and there is a lot of smoke about them trading up. While I don't see them trading up, it makes a lot of sense for them to draft a quarterback if one of the top four are available. Ryan Tannehill is in the final year of his contract and is 34 years old. It does not make sense to resign him. Anthony Richardson has the upside to develop into a starting quarterback but will need some time to develop. He can sit behind Tannehill for the better part of this season before becoming the full time starter in 2024.
12. Houston Texans (from Cle): Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
Until very recently I wasn't big on the Texans drafting a Wide Receiver, but that was because I believe they would prioritize Quarterback and edge rusher. Now that I have them passing on Quarterback, it frees them up to address the Wide Receiver spot. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the best Wide Receiver, and would make an immediate impact.
13. Green Bay Packers (from NYJ): Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee
Given that the Packers want a pick swap as part of the Aaron Rodgers trade, I believe they are eying one or two specific players, who are likely Darnell Wright and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba is gone in this mock, but they prefer Darnell Wright anyways. Wright is an incredibly strong blocker who has a tremendous anchor against the pass rush. His run blocking is a work in progress, but he has the potential to become a road grader. He is also the only one of the top four Offensive Tackles to meet the Packers' offensive line thresholds. Look for him to start quickly at Right Tackle, which Zach Tom slides inside to Guard.
14. New England Patriots: Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern
While the Patriots could go into the season with Trent Brown, Riley Reiff and Calvin Anderson as their Offensive Tackles, it would be wise to add another player to the group as Brown and Reiff won't be playing much longer. Bill Belichick loves drafting offensive lineman, and Peter Skoronski fits his style perfectly. Skoronski is a technical, versatile and a great run blocker who would excel in their man blocking scheme. While many believe his arms are too short to play Tackle, the Patriots have not been deterred by shorter arms. Besides, I don't think they would mind if he is a guard only.
15. New York Jets (from GB): Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
Now that Aaron Rodgers is finally a Packer, it is time for them to surround him with as much talent as possible. Considering that their current two offensive tackles are Mekhi Becton, who has barely played over the last two years, and Duane Brown, who is almost 38, they must improve the position. Broderick Jones is an immensely talented blocker, who particularly excels in run blocking, but also has natural pass blocking ability.
16. Washington Commanders: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
Almost every year there is a player who is expected to go in the top ten, but drops. Last year it was Jermaine Johnson, and this year it could be Christian Gonzalez. If he makes it past Las Vegas, I am not sure where else he could go before Washington. However, Washington is glad he drops, as they need someone better than Cameron Dantzler and Rachad Wildgoose as their second and third Cornerbacks.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
With the top four Offensive Tackles and the top two Cornerbacks gone, this is not an ideal situation for the Steelers, who have made it clear they are looking to draft an Offensive Tackle or Cornerback with their first two picks. However, Deonte Banks is not far behind Devon Witherspoon and Christian Gonzalez. Banks has the man coverage ability to get drafted high, and the physicality to be a Steeler.
18. Detroit Lions: Steve Avila, G, TCU
This is a surprise, but there has been considerable buzz about the Lions selecting an interior offensive lineman, and it makes sense when you realize that none of their Guards are under contract past this season. Steve Avila is the best Guard in this year's class and will compete for a starting spot this season, while earning a starting role in 2024.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Lukas Van Ness, EDGE, Iowa
The Buccaneers are clearly in a rebuilding year, so they need to look for their next generation of core players. Shaquil Barrett is getting up in age, and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is looking mediocre, so adding a new edge rusher makes sense. Van Ness is a high-motor rusher, who plays with incredible power. While inexperienced, he has the athletic traits to develop into a good rusher.
20. Seattle Seahawks: Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson
After drafting Tyree Wilson, the Seahawks double down on edge rushers with Myles Murphy. Like Lukas Van Ness, Myles Murphy is a high-motor rusher with untapped potential.
21. Los Angeles Chargers: Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame
Everyone knows the Chargers lack capable receivers outside of Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Michael Mayer gives the Chargers a reliable pass catcher who excels in the short and intermediate range. He has the versatility to line up next to the tackle and block along with flexing out into the slot. He will be an immediate upgrade over Tre' Mckitty, which is important as it will allow them to effectively line up in 12 personnel.
22. Baltimore Ravens: Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
Outside of Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton when he is lined up in the slot, the Ravens Cornerback group is awful. Plus the Ravens like to draft Cornerbacks in the first round. Emmanuel Forbes, despite his small frame, excels in both man and zone coverage. This makes him a great fit for the Raven's who vary their coverages more than they have in the past.
23. Minnesota Vikings: Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
It is no secret that the Vikings need to upgrade at Cornerback, especially given that Brian Flores' defense requires Cornerbacks who can hold up in man coverage one-on-one during blitzes. Joey Porter Jr. excels in man coverage, making him an excellent fit.
24. Jacksonville Jaguars: Keion White, EDGE, Georgia Tech
Expect the Jaguars to surprise everyone. They did so by drafting the uber athletic but raw Trevon Walker last year. Keion White showed at the combine that he fits the same mold, in that he is also large and athletic. While edge rusher is not an immediate need, but Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke have an infinity for drafting edge rushers. They have also met with several edge rushers who are projected to go in the top two rounds. They wouldn't be spending so much time at the position if they weren't expected to draft one.
25. New York Giants: John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota
While Wide Receivers are the popular options due to a big need at the position, the Giants have a bigger need at Center. They neglected the position during Free Agency, which is often an indication that a team intends to fill that need during the draft. While not a sexy pick, John Michael Schmitz is a day one starter, who will help them strengthen their running game.
26. Dallas Cowboys: Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah
During the playoffs it became clear that the Cowboys need another offensive weapon, and after losing Dalton Schultz this is especially true. In particular they could use some size, so why not go with an athletic Tight End who can flex out as a Wide Receiver, in Dalton Kincaid. I know drafting Tight Ends in the first is not their tendency, but if they are going to make an exception, this is the year to do it.
27. Buffalo Bills: Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma
The Bills very well could be the team that starts the run on the tier two Wide Receivers, but since there will be some good ones available at there 2nd round pick, I believe they will go with an Offensive Tackle instead. Anton Harrison is an athletic tackle with the movement skills to grow into a good pass blocker. While his run blocking needs some development, Buffalo's high pass offense will minimize this deficiency.
28. Cincinnati Bengals: Will McDonald IV, EDGE, Iowa State
What is the best way to help a team with a high powered offense keep a lead? With a vicious pass rush of course. Outside of Trey Hendrickson, they lack any impact players as a pass rusher. Will McDonald gives the Bengals that. Look for him to be a designated pass rusher earlier in his career, before developing into a three down player.
29. New Orlean Saints (from SF): Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh
The Saints could use some help at Defensive Tackle, and while they typically prefer players with longer arms, they have been doing lots of work on Calijah Kancey. Kancey would give the Saints defense some much needed juice.
30. Philadelphia Eagles: Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan
The Eagles struggled down the stretch to stop the run, which is evident by the way the Chiefs ran all over them in the Super Bowl. I fully expect them to draft a Defensive Tackle early, with a good chance of doing so in the first round. Mazi Smith is a powerful and freakishly athletic Nose Tackle who excels at stopping the run but also has the ability to be a sufficient pass rusher. While he projects best as a 1-tech, the Eagles would likely play him significantly at 4i. They could also have Jordan Davis play at 3/4i while Smith plays the 1.
31. Kansas City Chiefs: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU
It seems every fan wants the Chiefs to trade for DeAndre Hopkins or draft one with this pick. Well the Chiefs fans are in luck as one falls to them. I don't believe they will be aggressive in acquiring a Wide Receiver, but if the opportunity presents itself for them to cheaply acquire one I expect them to do so. Which is why the Chiefs end his perceived fall. Quentin Johnston is a HWS speed Wide Receiver with a good amount of upside, but it is his ability after the catch that gets the Chiefs attention.
